Episto vs Zoho Mail

Episto vs Zoho Mail: two ways to host email on your domain.

Zoho Mail is a popular low-cost option with a free tier and a wider Zoho suite around it. Episto focuses on email on your domain only. Here is where each fits.

When Zoho Mail is the better choice

  • You want hosted mailboxes at no cost and can live within the free plan’s limits.
  • You already use Zoho CRM, Zoho Books or other Zoho apps and want them tied to your mail.
  • You want documents, chat and meetings from the same vendor.

When Episto is the better choice

  • You want standard IMAP and SMTP access for every mailbox on every paid plan.
  • You give out many addresses: catch-all and generous alias limits are included.
  • You want guided DNS setup that keeps checking SPF, DKIM and DMARC for you.
  • You prefer a service that does one thing: email on your domain.

Switching to Episto

You keep your domain and your addresses. Only the DNS records change.

  1. Add your domain to Episto and create mailboxes and aliases for every address you use today, so nothing bounces after the switch.
  2. Keep a copy of your mail. Existing messages stay with your old provider. Export them before you close that account.
  3. Update your DNS records. Point the MX record to Episto and add the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. See the setup guides.
  4. Wait for new mail to arrive at Episto, then cancel the old subscription. Keep it until the DNS change has spread, usually within a few hours.
